We are holding a presentation and discussion event on Tuesday, 25 February 2025, 18.00-20.00, at the Autism Guernsey offices (above the showroom at St Martin’s Garage).
The event is called “Neurodiverse Couples” and is aimed at adult, romantic couples who are (broadly speaking) made up of one autistic and one non-autistic person.
To elaborate a little more on who this session is for:
You do not need an autism diagnosis to attend, and if both members of the couple, for example, are autistic, or one or both are undiagnosed, that is also fine. The aim is to have a mix of autistic and non-autistic people in the room and to explore some of the challenges of being part of a neurodiverse couple (a couple where both members’ brains are wired differently). We will, of course, talk about the good bits too! For this reason, it will be important that both members of a couple are available to attend.
The session will have to halves. The first hour is a presentation about autism and autistic relationships (a lived experience/non-clinical perspective). The second hour is a Q&A/discussion hosted by our Education Manager and their partner. We will ask you to submit questions in advance; we hope the Q&A will become a broader discussion about neurodiverse relationships.
We will ask for a minimum donation of £30 per couple to cover the cost of this session (however, if this is a barrier to your attendance, please let us know so we can make an adjustment).
Important note: The session will be facilitated from an autistic lived experience perspective. The facilitator is not a clinician, and they do not have any knowledge or experience with learning disabilities, so this session is aimed specifically at neurodivergent and neurotypical adults who do not have learning disabilities. Furthermore, we will not explicitly cover parenting in this session unless it comes up in a group discussion. We will, however, signpost you to our parenting programmes.
If you and your partner are interested in attending and are available, save the date in your calendar, then email martine.ellis@autismguernsey.org.gg to reserve a space for you and your partner.
